Reassurance Concerning Credit and Debit Card Fraud
There's no doubt that credit cards and debit cards have changed the way we do business, both as individuals and as businesses. Instead of carrying cash, these cards provide convenience and safety, as well as tracking of transactions on monthly statements.
You don't have to lose your credit or debit card to become a victim of credit or debit card fraud. Thieves can obtain your card account numbers from old receipts, by scanning your card in illegal machines or other fraudulent means.
Fraud Early Warning — If there’s any unusual activity on your credit or debit card such as out-of-state charges or an expensive purchase, our fraud department will contact you. When our fraud department contacts you they will ask you to 1) Confirm your card number and 2) For the last 4 of your social security number only. For this reason it is extremely important that we have your current and correct cell and home telephone numbers on file. If we cannot reach you, we may cut off your card if we cannot confirm that it is you who is using your card. We suggest that you always have an additional form of payment in case your card is cut off for example, do you have both our debit card and our credit card?

Even if your card is compromised your credit union is here to help you. Let us know as soon as you recognize fraudulent activity in your account. We will ask you to help us by signing a statement stating that these charges were not made by you. In some cases we may also need a police report to file with our insurance company.
